KTD Creative has been a long-time creative partner to the prestigious National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), a private, nonprofit institution with a remarkable history of providing independent, objective advice on some of the nation’s most complex challenges. The National Academy of Sciences was established by an Act of Congress signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and the National Academies today bring together the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and National Academy of Medicine. Election to one of the Academies is considered one of the highest professional honors in science, engineering, and health.
As part of our ongoing work supporting NASEM’s communications and digital initiatives, KTD Creative was asked to design and animate a highly interactive, single-page experience for the National Academies’ existing website. The page highlighted a workshop sponsored by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation focused on the scientific landscape and research opportunities for improving sepsis diagnosis in the U.S. health care system, as part of NASEM’s broader series on diagnostic excellence.
The client wanted movement and interactivity pushed to the fullest extent possible—and KTD Creative delivered. We designed a dynamic scrolling experience in which video modules entered the page from opposing directions, graphics moved and transformed as users scrolled, colors shifted, and content unfolded in a carefully choreographed sequence. Numerous videos were integrated throughout the experience, creating an immersive presentation that felt more like an interactive digital story than a traditional web page.
The result was a sophisticated and engaging digital experience that transformed complex scientific content into something visually compelling and accessible. NASEM was delighted with the finished product, which demonstrated KTD Creative’s ability to combine thoughtful information design, sophisticated animation, and technical web expertise to support the communications goals of one of the nation’s most respected scientific institutions.
